Ceramic vase, 'Islands'

Christian takes his inspiration from the Moche culture, both for the shape and the design motifs that decorate this vase. A wide, swift river flows around its center, moving smoothly past islands in its stream. Exposing the pieces to smoke creates the dark coloration, and the vase is then polished with a river stone. Ceramics such as these are entirely unique � not even the artisan can recreate one. Thus slight variations of color or brushstrokes confirm their originality and authenticity.
